Expanding Your Communication Toolbelt – January 2026: Engaging with and Controlling your Inner Dialogue while Coaching the Client
This program empowers coaches to deepen their mastery of foundational coaching competencies through enhanced self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and effective communication techniques through unique presentation and inventive visual bookmarks. Participants will move through a structured process of Aware, Label, Agency, Control and Own where they will refine skills essential for coaching presence, active listening, powerful questioning, and fostering client growth aligned with ICF Core Competencies.
This class is based on the facilitators book, Owning Your IT: Actionable tools to improve your interpersonal communication.
**A proprietary companion workbook (or relevant portions) is given to the participants and deepens all learnings, journaling opportunities, independent or partner activities, and each exercise.
**As the illustrations (over 100) are integral to this training, I provided a sample chapter of both of these publications to assist in considering my application.
Day 1 – Aware: Build self-awareness by exploring how mindset shapes communication and decision-making. Identify reactive habits and strengthen emotional resilience through reflection and feedback.
Day 2 – Label: Recognize emotional triggers and label motivational drivers behind behavior. Balance empathy and accountability while applying techniques to maintain composure.
Day 3 – Agency: Expand emotional intelligence and cognitive control through reframing, bias reduction, and self-coaching tools that strengthen presence and support others.
Day 4 – Control: Master precision questioning and inner voice regulation. Practice adaptive communication using tools like The Caring Dial and The 50/50 Rule.
Day 5 – Own: Integrate all tools in real-world scenarios. Apply cognitive control, redirect stress, and solidify your personalized communication “toolbelt” for ongoing growth.
