Masking, Code-Switching & Authenticity: Coaching at the Intersection of Identity and Safety
In coaching, we often talk about “bringing your authentic self.” But for many clients—especially those who are BIPOC, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and/or disabled—authenticity is not always simple, safe, or even accessible.
Masking and code-switching are not flaws to fix. They are adaptive strategies shaped by lived experience, safety, and survival.
In this interactive session, we’ll explore the real cost of masking, the nuanced reality of authenticity, and how coaches can support clients in making intentional, self-honoring choices—without imposing moral pressure to “just be yourself.”
We’ll also examine how intersectionality shapes these experiences and how coaches can create spaces where clients feel safer to show up more fully—at their own pace.
✨ This session is designed for coaches who want to deepen their awareness, build more inclusive practices, and better support clients navigating identity, safety, and self-expression.
