The Embodied Coach: Ethics as a Way of Being
Ethics is not something a coach does. Ethics is who a coach is. When ethics is something we do, we follow rules and hope we have remembered them all. When ethics is who we are, the rules describe how we already work. The coach who lives ethics as a way of being does not feel constrained by the Code. The coach feels freer in the coaching conversation because they are no longer worried about getting it wrong.
In this workshop, Jordan Mercedes invites coaches into the work of writing their own personal ethics statement. The ICF Code of Ethics is a promise the coach makes to clients and the profession. The personal ethics statement is a promise the coach makes to themselves. Both matter.
