Coaching Quicksand: Dealing with Narcissism in Coaching

In this interactive working group, we will explore challenging questions surrounding the fascinating topic of narcissism in coaching. According to common estimates, around 5% of the general population display narcissistic personality traits. In corporate leadership positions — and potentially in professions such as elite sports and acting — this proportion may rise to as many as 1 in 6 individuals. Since narcissism is still a relatively new field of research, it often seems to be everywhere these days. But is that really the case? Together, we will examine questions such as:
What is narcissism — and what is it not? How is it defined, and what are the most common types? Which indicative behaviors can we observe in coaching and beyond? How can we support our coachees, even though coaches should neither diagnose nor provide therapeutic advice?
