Going Deep in Coaching Without Digging Into the Past
You sense there is something underneath what your client is saying. The conversation keeps circling back to the same place. You notice resistance—or a shift in energy—but pushing harder doesn’t feel right. How do you go deeper without turning coaching into therapy? In this highly experiential MAP workshop, we will introduce the Elemental Cycle: a six-phase framework combining Gestalt principles with the five elements of Tao. It offers a practical lens for noticing how we move through contact, action and completion—and where that natural movement gets interrupted. These interruptions often show up in coaching as resistance, stuck patterns or changes in energy. And they don’t only belong to our clients. As coaches, we have our own habitual patterns too: places we move through too quickly, avoid altogether, or stay in for too long. Rather than pushing through resistance, the Elemental Cycle helps us become curious.
- Recognise resistance and recurring patterns through shifts in your client's language, body and energy.
- Discover your own patterns as a coach—the phases you tend to skip, rush through or linger in.
- Work with resistance rather than against it, helping clients explore what they may be bypassing.
- Track and support energy throughout a coaching conversation, opening the possibility for deeper work while staying firmly in the coaching space.
