Sharks, Kingfishers and Redwoods – Meet your new mentors! Nature as model, measure and mentor
The session will introduce the essentials of biomimicry and highlight how learning from nature can offer us new pathways to create innovative and sustainable solutions in all fields of human endeavor.
Biomimicry is the practice of imitating nature’s strategies and designs to address human challenges. For example, the nose cone of the bullet train mimics the shape of the kingfisher’s beak to cut down the noise generated when it emerges from tunnels. Redwood groves provide inspiration for the organizational structure of businesses. Nature with 3.8 billion years of wisdom, offers time-tested solutions to all our problems. We do not need to reinvent the strategies that are already here. We just need to learn how to adapt them. Biomimicry helps us tap into nature’s wisdom to create novel solutions in fields ranging from engineering and architecture, to design, manufacturing, fashion, medicine, management, leadership, and coaching.
