The ICF Core Competencies in action: an overview and the inter-relatedness of the competencies

The current ICF Core Competency model was released in 2020, the result of a two-year job analysis; the most in-depth, extensive research and analysis of the competencies of a professional coach ever undertaken. Each of the eight competencies very important part to play in the efficacy of the coach’s interventions with their clients. However, the true power and impact of coaching comes when the practitioner understands and elegantly integrates these competencies in a natural, holistic way. In this interactive, reflective session, we will look at an overview of the model, its history, background and key themes. We will also look more deeply at how the competencies are inter-related and underpin each other when integrated as a seamless part of a coach’s practice. Specifically, we will examine how certain competencies work together on a very practical level. This exploratory dialogue, both as a large group and in breakout rooms, will deepen our understanding of the competency model.
